The story behind the birth of AIR MAX
The first running shoe to feature "visible air," the Air Max, was released in 1987. In order to maximize the capacity of Nike Air, development began with a functional approach in which the airbag was deformed and released to the sides when the shoe landed.
The designer, Tinker Hatfield, is said to have taken inspiration from the Pompidou Center in the 4th arrondissement of Paris.
In 1990, the "AIR MAX LIGHT", "AIR MAX 90", and "Air Max 180" were released. Then, in 1995, the "AIR MAX 95" was released, which became a social phenomenon in Japan, and caused such a frenzy that anyone who even wore them was subject to attacks known as "Air Max hunting" .
This is a classic series that NIKE is proud of, with new products still being released today.
