The story behind the birth of STAN SMITH
,
"STAN SMITH" was released as a signature model in 1973.
The design is based on the world's first all-leather tennis shoes, "HAILLET," which was originally created in 1965.
The Haillet was also a signature model of French player Robert Haillet, but since Stan Smith was fond of wearing this model at the time, a signature shoe called "STAN SMITH" was created with his face printed on the tongue.
When it was first released, it was called the "Stan Smith Hi-Lette," but was later sold as the "Stan Smith." By 1991, it had sold approximately 22 million pairs, making it a best-selling model recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the "world's best-selling sneaker."
"Stan Smith (Stanley Roger Smith)" is a former professional tennis player from the United States who was active from the 1960s to the early 1970s . He won the Wimbledon Championship in 1972 and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1987. He is also a great player and coach.
